This week I was looking for some new projects. I really WAS going to start a row by row quilt from this book I picked up last week, but then saw a Facebook post on this cute little quilt in the January/February issue of Quiltmaker magazine, so had to start on that instead! Isn’t it the cutest? It is a quilt by Lori Holt ( yes, the same one whose BLOOM sew-along I am participating in!), but before you think that I am Lori Holt crazy…..hmmm, never mind, yep, you are correct, right now I am obsessed with Lori Holt! I love her scrappy, happy look, and for now I think it’s okay that I am a bit one-sided in my quilt-making choices. 🙂
I opted to use my scrap box filled with pieces of this and that and cut a gazillion little strips to make the log cabin blocks. I am chain-piecing the blocks so they are coming together fairly quickly and easily. I have not started the applique in the center, because I wanted to see what the overall look of the log cabin blocks will be first. Then I will decide what color my flowers and leaves need to be.
The cute pincushions that I finished last week were a big hit, so much so that I had to make one for a special someone who pretty much begged for one…yes, you know who you are :). The embroidery for that one is done, and now it just needs to be finished up and be made into an actual pincushion. Then it will be send off to its new owner.
It looks a little different than the first because I used different thread and changed up the pattern a bit, but I think she will like it just the same! I am loving these quick little stitching projects that I can work on while sitting waiting for kids, or while watching tv!
By the way, in case you are wondering how my New Year’s resolution to NOT buy any new fabric this year is going….other than my EPIC fail when I went shopping with that famous someone, I am being SO good! Not one inch of new fabric has passed the threshold of our house in the month of February!
Until next time!
