Hello everyone and, if this is your first visit, welcome to my blog Farmhouse Quilts! I am very excited to have been asked to be a participant in Jacquelynne Steves’ block of the month! It will be so much fun to sew along every month, AND to see everyone’s blocks. ( I always love seeing how different everybody’s quilt looks when they are all finished, don’t you?)
Let me tell you a little bit about myself: I am the mom of four kids, ranging in age from 8 to 23. I have always loved being crafty and over the years have tried knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and card-making. Then, about 15 years ago, when our third child was 1, I discovered quilting. I was hooked immediately! And let me tell you, with 3 kids ages 7 and under, there certainly was not a lot of time for a new hobby! But I just fell in love with the whole process, from the fabric, to the pattern, to the quilting, and yes, even the binding. It was wonderful to spend a few minutes each day or evening to “sneak away” to have some “me” time and create something special. Fast forward a few years and our kids are all older and in school or at jobs, but I still love to have that special time in my room to play with fabrics and to create something fun.
These are some pictures of my latest projects.
I have a terrible habit of starting something and then getting distracted and starting on something new. ( I call it ADOSOD….Attention Deficit Ooooh Shiny Object Disorder, except for me the shiny objects are quilt patterns 🙂 ) So in other words, you will see pictures of a project in progress and then you won’t hear or see anything else about it, because it has simply been replaced by something “shinier”. This is why quilt-alongs and BOM’s are so good for me! Every once in a while I am prompted to make another block and that keeps the interest going and then I manage to finish the project…YEAHH!
So for this Block of the Month I am not going to reveal my colors and fabrics just yet, but I will tell you that I will be using wool to make my flower appliques. I love working with wool, especially because I can work on projects while away from my sewing machine. I can’t wait to show you the blocks….they are going to be so cute!! By the way, if you have not signed up yet, it is not too late. Here is the link.
