Time for another block and 2 prize give-aways!

Hello there and happy Monday!

It is time once again for Maggie’s First Dance, the free sew-along from Jacquelynne Steves. This month we are working on block number 2! Have you got your directions all  printed out and are you ready to go?  Okay then 🙂

As many of you already know, I opted to make my version of Maggie’s quilt using  wool applique. Why? Because I love working with wool and it allows me to stitch by hand while I keep my family company at night, instead of being secluded in my quilt room. Luckily I had just the right choices of wool to make the appliques so there was no cheating on the fabric diet!

Here are some pictures of the block in progress….

and more….

And here it is all finished!003You may notice that I reversed the flying geese blocks next to the hourglass blocks. I did that on purpose to make my block look more “star-like”. I also incorporated a few other colors this time because I wanted to give my quilt a cohesive, but more scrappy look. (Also, I am less likely to run out of fabric if I incorporate a bit more choices…fabric diets can be challenging  🙂 !)

Here are block number 2 and 1:004I like them! They go together, but they don’t match and I like that look!

Have fun with your block and please make sure to share pictures! It has been so much fun seeing all the variety of colors and fabrics. Remember that you can share your block ( and admire other people’s blocks!) here, here, or here.

And now for the prize give-away this month….this prize package is sponsored by Thermoweb *Sorry, this contest is now CLOSED*

Woohoo, what a nice prize give-away! I was the lucky recipient of a can of basting spray and am planning on using it when putting this quilt together. I have never used basting spray before, but have read good reviews about it. I use Heat n Bond adhesive all the time and actually buy it 2 rolls at a time, just to make sure I don’t run out! Now for the details of this give-away:

  1. This contest is open to continental US participants only!  ( that is due to the fact that the prize includes aerosol which HAS to be shipped by ground, but no worries, details about a prize give away for all you other folks are coming up!)
  2. Leave me a comment telling me a color you LOVE and a color you LOATHE using in your quilt projects.
  3. Please make sure to include your email address because if I choose you and can’t contact you, I will have to choose a different winner!
  4. Contest deadline is July 11, 2016 at 11:59 EDT, at which time I will randomly pick a winner from all eligible entries.

I will announce the winner right here on my blog sometime after July 16th, but will contact the winner by email also.

Now for the other prize give-away…this one is OPEN to EVERYONE!  Michele over at Quilting Gallery is giving away 4 copies of this pattern:fe5cc5fa-2f49-41be-bbd7-4b27e680d403To enter just go to Michele’s website http://quiltinggallery.com/blog-posts/ and follow the directions there.

  1. I love purple, and blue and pink/reds. I don’t like using green or orange, but lots of my quilts use those colors. I’ve been given some fabrics that have orange, and had to use it! lol

  2. I have only made one quilt but have bought patterns and fabric for several. I seem to lean toward purples and away from orange .

  3. I enjoy using reds, lots of reds because it appeals so much to me. I guess I don’t have a color that I loathe. I’m not a fan of purple, so I don’t find myself purchasing much of it though.

  4. I love almost any shade of blue, but I really dislike using dark brown in my quilts. I’m working on hand quilting a quilt right now with some dark brown in it, and I really wish I had used something different. The only benefit is that it makes seeing the stitching easier. Thanks for the giveaway! Love the blocks in your post!

  5. I love yellow, red and blue. There isn’t a color I loathe but I haven’t used gray very much in quilts.

  6. I love green s and blues blended together. There is a brownish/orange shade that makes my skin look sickly — I will use it in small amounts just to make the other colors shine.

  7. Your two finished blocks are very pretty. I guess I love blues because there are just so many shades of blues and everything tends to go well with it. I don’t really loathe a color but would probably say black would be used the least.

  10. Love using white in my quilts. Not much on orange. Love how you’ve been using wool for your applique. Great to have projects to work on with the family around….quilting memories wrapped in love.

  11. My favorite color to use in my quilts is blue followed by green. I do not really loathe any color, but I am light on orange and yellow fabrics in my stash. dhardenburg (at) prodigy (dot) net

  12. Just a beginner here, learning with every project! I love using purples and blues but just can’t stand green!!!!! Even in Christmas projects I would rather be able to use something other than green!

  13. I really don’t have a favorite color since I tend to like all of them. I seem to lean more toward pastels of blues, pinks and yellows. Bright orange would be the least favorite.

  14. I love working with teals and aquas but I hate sewing with rust – I just will not use it!

  15. I like all colors. I am a beginner quilter and haven’t made that many quilts. I have used blue and green the most. I don’t exactly loathe orange, but it’s not a color I would buy unless I had a specific use for it.

  16. I love red….I could have red everywhere and never tire of it. There isn’t a color I do not like but if I had to I would say orange is my least used color.. Although for a pop, you can”t beat it. God made such beautiful colors for our eyes to enjoy.

  17. I love greens and blues. As for loathe, can’t say I loathe it, but purple is not one I use much.

  18. So far, I haven’t found a color I don’t like in a quilt! I haven’t used black yet but I have half of a bolt so I there’s definitely black in my future!

  19. I love using aqua with just about any color because I like something that is really bright that gives the pattern I am using a big burst of color. My least favorite color would be a dark brown. I think because it’s too close to black and I would prefer using black if I had the choice.
