back in the groove of things and Maggie’s First Dance block 4

Hello there,

Things are slowly falling back into a regular routine, with the kids back in school. Summer went by way too fast, if you ask me, but I am enjoying the cooler weather and Fall approaching. I love all the seasons, but there is something so cozy and comforting about Fall and Winter that I do have to admit I like them the most!  And of course, as a quilter, I love the idea of bringing out the quilts to cuddle up with on cooler days…I just don’t associate quilts with Spring and Summer as much.

Not that I’m thinking mine is going to be a cuddle quilt, but Maggie’s First Dance should be done in plenty of time for the cooler weather too! Today Jacquelynne is releasing block 4 over on her website, but you should also be receiving it in your email if you signed up.

I finished the applique for this block way back in early summer because I figured with holidays and kids home from school I wouldn’t get too much done, so all I had left to do was the block construction.001Here is just the applique ( in wool~ I love working with wool~ nothing to needle turn, no fusible).  And then it was time to start “building” the block:

This block was very easy to put together and hardly took any time at all, but do pay attention to the direction of your half-square triangles! You wouldn’t want to accidentally sew one in the wrong direction…

Here is a look at my finished block:

Oooh, so pretty! And here are all my completed blocks so far:013I really like how they go together, but don’t match. I can’t wait to decide what I’m going to do with the 5 setting blocks….so many possibilities! Have fun with your block and make sure to share your photos on the Sew Quilty Friends page too!

Now for this month’s prize give-away….yahoo! That is my favorite part each month. I love reading your responses….keep ’em coming!  This month you  have a chance of winning this amazing bundle of patterns from Deanne over at Snuggles Quilts:unnamedThis contest is open to EVERYBODY, both in the USA and internationally, so make sure to enter. 1. SUMMER! I am a summer person! I love everything about it from the sunshine to the sunsets. Even the heat doesn’t bother me. {most of the time} The only thing I could do with out are the mosquito’s.

  2. Fall is my favorite season. I love all the warm cozy colors, reds, Browns, golds, oranges and yellows. So pretty. It’s not too cold yet and I can still be outside.

  3. Spring is my favorite. After a long, frozen Midwestern winter, warmer temps and green grass is so welcoming! The robins return and the crocuses bloom, bringing new life back to the earth.

  4. Spring has to win hands down-nature pulls all the colors out of her bag and puts them all together in a lively display of color to brighten the world that has been so blah for the previous months!

  5. I think probably spring is my favourite season with bulbs appearing, birds singing, cool breezes and clear skies, bright colours and a feeling of new life springing forth.

  8. Fall is my favorite season because it is so temperate and a welcome change from the heat of summer. My “colors” from back when (I’m over 50) is Autumn/Winter. Must be why I like it!

  10. Winter is my favourite, our summers are so hot, our springs too windy but, autumn is very seductive, it is a teaser for winter; this is a time to sew, to ignore the garden, to snuggle up and keep warm and dream. It is a time to cook cakes, soups, stews and roasts without dripping in the heat of the kitchen, it is the most creative time of the year for me. Guilt free as I hibernate with my fabrics, computer, kitchen, friends and family. Enjoy your fall, I envy you the colours of the leaves and misty light as the darkness of winter creeps up into the festive season.

  12. Hi! I really like your blocks, they are so pretty! I haven’t worked with wool, but plan to soon. My favorite season is fall. I love the cooler weather, and smells and colors, pumpkins and mums.

  13. I love all the seasons. I used to say fall was my favorite for the same reasons many have stated, but then I lived for many years where the seasons blended way too much for my personality. Now that I’m back where the seasons are more distinct, I find I really appreciate each and every one. Until they get too extreme that is! Then I’m ready for the next one! Ha-ha!

  14. Fall is my season cause it’s cooler, colorful with many a favorite smell – pumpkins/apples & spice, home canned relish/pickles/syrups, fallen leaves, plus trips for firewood in nearby mountains. Love the workout without a ton of sweat from hot temps. Plus I was born in October!

  15. I like summer. When I was teaching, I had the summer off. Usually my allergies are better during this summer, but not this year. I think it’s because we’ve had so much wind to blow the pollen around. The rest of the year, I, like many others, suffer from seasonal allergies. This forces me to stay inside most of the time, which is why I like to sew and quilt.

  16. For me it is a very close race between Spring and Fall. Spring is just so beautiful with trees and flowers beginning to bloom and the air is still a bit crisp from winter. And Fall! The colors of changing leaves are amazing…there is such variety in all the beautiful colors. And with Fall the days are not as hot and the evenings are so pleasant. Both seasons provide such wonderful inspiration for quilting.
