Yikes! Can you believe that it is October already?! September just flew by….whoosh…..before you know it the Christmas season will be upon us! I always have the BEST intentions to get working on my gift projects early, and then decide that there is plenty of time to get them done. Then the days, weeks, and months fly by and I of course don’t get done half of what I was hoping for….you’d think I would learn my lesson *sigh*.
Well, at least I had Maggie’s First Dance on my radar last month and when I realized that the first Monday in October was just lurking around the corner I got right down to work on those next blocks! These are the setting blocks to go with the 4 appliqued blocks that were made in previous months. There are 5 to make in total, but they are easy and won’t take nearly as much time as the appliqued/ embroidered versions! If you signed up for the quilt- along your instructions should be in your inbox sometime today. If you are new here and you want to see what Maggie’s First Dance is all about, you can go here to check out details: www. jacquelynnesteves.com.
For me the part that took the longest was figuring out the color scheme! I am not using the suggested colors, partly because I am on a fabric diet this year and I am trying not to buy any new fabric, but also because for me it is much more fun to be a little rebellious and do something a little different. So these were my completed blocks so far:I really wanted to bring all those colors that I used back into my setting blocks, and after playing with some different combinations came up with the idea to keep the block colors all the same, except for the one color band ( which is yellow in the pattern). So these are my setting blocks:
I think these blocks will work well in the overall look of the quilt. This is what all the blocks look like together:
I am really happy with how it is turning out! I suppose I could start quilting the blocks already, because I love to quilt as I go, and it will certainly be easier to twist and turn the blocks while they are still unattached. Let’s see if I get distracted by another project first 🙂
