Lucky me

Hello there,

Things have been a little crazy around our house for the past few weeks, thus the lack of a blog post last week! Three of our 4 kids now have jobs, and they get 1 car to share, so you figure out the math….exactly: I have to chauffeur 🙂 . I don’t mind really, because it’s great that they all have a job, but it does make life a teensy bit more complicated. I keep reminding them to write their work hours on our big family calendar so I can keep it all straight, but some kids are better than others about doing just that~teehee.

To add to the hectic work schedule,  both my husband and youngest son celebrated their birthdays this month ( add in a birthday party day also), so needless to say that I haven’t had much time to spend in my quilt room! I know some day in the not-so-distant future I will look back on these busy days and wish them back so I’m going to stop whining now 😀

I mentioned in a previous blog post that I finally broke down and bought the Splendid Sampler book.Splendid Sampler book

I had started to save some of the blocks while the QAL was happening last year, but then I just gave up, or forgot, or found out that it was going to come out in book form (Yayyy!). So now I am the proud owner of the book and have been having fun dog-earing ( my book, I can do that!) my most favorite blocks and have even gotten a start on some of the embroidered ones. (You know that I love to have something to do while watching tv at night!) I made Amy Sinibaldi’s block: Amy Sinibaldi block from Splendid Sampler, made by Farmhouse Quilts and am almost  finished ( snuck in a bit of time today!)with Gail Pan’s Block too:

2 blocks from Splendid Sampler done ( Farmhouse quilts)Next I think I will make some pieced blocks, although I might just get started on another embroidered block because they are so relaxing to work on….

Pretty soon Jacquelynne Steves’ BOM I Love Home will start and I have been very good about working away on those blocks. Block number 1 is completed and I LOVE how it turned out! I am not using the same colors as in the original because I want the quilt to be “mine”, although certain colors are certainly very similar to Jacquelynne’s version. I have been sharing some sneak peeks in the facebook group, but if you are not part of that group, here is a little peek just for you:

(This BOM is free and will start the beginning of August, in case you want to join in the fun :))

I am super excited that Lori Holt’s Bee Happy sew along will be starting soon also!Bee Happy Quilt by Lori Holt I just love Lori’s style,  and her instructions are so clear and straightforward! I am patiently awaiting the arrival of the templates ( the pattern is FREE, the templates you need to purchase). I have also ordered her book called Spelling Bee:Spelling Bee book by Lori HoltI have all of Lori’s previous books and had to add this one to my collection as well. Soooo many cute projects….I can’t wait!  Will you be sewing along with Lori? If you are, you should know  that my friend Wendy over at Four Peaches Fabric has offered my readers a great deal:

  • The first 5 people who order both The Spelling Bee book and Pre-Order the Bee Happy Templates will get a free Olfa rotary cutter! Anyone who orders after that will receive  a free Pieced Tree Pattern of Wendy’s choice. (When ordering there is a notes section. You MUST put “Farmhouse Quilts” in that section!) Go here to order:

Finally, I also want to share some exciting news: My friend Kristie ( and I are collaborating on a special Christmas Sew-along that will start August 14th!! Each of us will reveal a brand new design for a Christmas ornament, every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, all the way until Christmas! We are so excited and ofcourse hope that you will all join in on the fun! More details about this Sew-along will follow soon, so stay tuned!Merry

Whew, I am so glad that I had some time ( and  a little bit of something quilty) to share with you this week! Even though there has not been any time lately, I do feel so blessed  that I discovered this wonderful obsession  hobby and, if I’m lucky,  get in a few minutes each day to make something beautiful.

Until next time!

  1. You have a lovely family Monique. Happy birthday to all. I too am looking forward to Jacquelynne’s quilt along. My sister signed up and we’re going to do it together. She lives in California but we can skype and email. It’s going to be so much fun.

I’m really looking forward to the Christmas ornaments. Connecting Threads had a big sale and I got both Christmas and Halloween fabrics so I’m all set.
