Time thief

Hello again,

For the past couple of weeks ( oh, let’s be honest~MONTHS!) I have felt like time was slipping by way too fast. I’d wake up in the morning  and make all kinds of plans on what I was going to accomplish that day, and then at night would fall into bed having gotten nothing much done at all. Where was all my precious time going?

So for a week or so I paid very careful attention to where I was spending time and what I was spending time on….can you guess what it was? Yep, the Internet! It is just sooooo easy to get sucked into that wonderful, beautiful, addictive space where I can admire photos, connect with friends, and find out about all the latest sales, trends, recipes, you name it!

But in the meanwhile I am not LIVING my own life and getting MY projects done! It is really hard NOT to be online…my job is done online, I write my blog while online, I communicate with a lot of followers online. But I really needed to set some limits, especially when I found that I was getting back and neck aches probably from poor posture while online!

So for the past week or so I have tried very hard to set an online schedule for myself. Some days it was easier than others ( I really do agree with people who say that being online is like a drug~you become very addicted to it), but I would give myself time to be online just 3 times a day, once in the morning, then at lunchtime, and then again in late afternoon or early evening.( Thankfully I never turned on the notifications feature on my phone or Ipad so that really helps!) And you know what? It made a big difference! I have had so much more time to get projects done, and have had so much fun working on MY stuff! Being creative is all about creating after all, and not ogling other’s projects on the ‘net’ ( although I will admit that sometimes the inspiration is great!).

Anyway, if you find yourself not having time for anything, take a good look at your online activity and try to limit your time. I think you will be much happier for it! Why not give it a try for just one week and see what you think. And then let me know here or via email or in the Fb group if you found it made a difference.

Just to prove how much more extra time I had this past week, have a look at the photos sprinkled throughout this post….I got all these things done with my newly “found” time! ( And I have to tell you that my house is looking pretty darn good too :D)

Before I go just a reminder that Kristie released her pattern for September in our FREE Merry Christmas sew along ( click here) and I will be releasing my version on the 25th of September! We are having so much fun with these and hope you are too!

Until next time~happy creating!

  1. I have limited my online time to an hour in the morning and another in the evening. If I don’t I spend too much time and don’t get anything else done. It is addictive and so much fun to read blogs, see what others have made, keep in touch with family and friends and so on.

  2. I can totally relate! I’m online way more than I want to be, but it is a necessity as a blogger. I try to set time limits as well & there are days that it works. Some days I have lots to do online & I try to take frequent breaks to keep myself moving. I also have days when I barely get online at all. It’s a balance that’s hard to maintain sometimes! I do have notifications turned on for my phone, but I’ve learned that I don’t have to respond immediately. I have to agree that I get more done in the craft room when I’m not online. 🙂

  3. I too run a business and I feel I am way online too much and feel life slipping away.
I have been downsizing my possessions and now it’s time to downsize from the internet thanks for the “go to attitude”

  4. It must be the theme for us this week…ive been noticing that I haven’t been finishing many projects, but these last few days where I’ve dropped back on my browsing time, I’ve got alot done, and it shows. I never turn my notifications on either Hehe.

  5. I totally agree with you Monique, i get suckered in too quickly and then find that my day is over and have not done anything I really wanted to do. So cut back time, thanks for this timely reminder. Take care and I love all that you have accomplished.
