Just a super quick blog post today with a few finishes! Our older boys were home from college this past week, which meant lots of sewing time because they looked after and entertained the pets that I usually take care of. Don’t get me wrong, I love all our pets, but taking them for walks( the dog), and letting them run around for a few hours ( the bunny), takes a big chunk of time out of every day. So this past week I took full advantage and sewed away happily in my Christmassy quilt room!
Remember that pillow I was working on? All done!
It adds a nice Christmas touch to our bedroom!
I also finished the Gnome Forest tablerunner that I was running as a sew-along in the private FB group:
Because I used the Quilt As You Go method ( or QAYG for short), this project was so quick and easy….first I quilted each block as it was completed. I used a combination of free-motion, quilting in the ditch, AND the specialty stitches on my machine( the snowflakes on the white next to the trees).
By the way, all this was done just on the block and the batting~ NO BACKING! Once my blocks were all done, I decided on my sashing and “quilted” that by using my specialty machine stitches again. I also decided to hand embroider the center block by hand…there is no rule that says you can only use one method to quilt your work!
After sewing all the top components together, I added a backing fabric and them quilted some simple lines in the ditch between the blocks and then was super lazy and just trimmed the backing all the same size, folded it double, and attached it to the front of the quilt.! Super quick and easy! I even added a label ( I embroidered the center motif and added the writing with a Sharpie)!
So simple, so quick, and oh so cute, even if I do say so myself 😉 . ( By the way, the link for the free pattern for this can be found a few blog posts back, in case you *need* to have it!)
And finally, I can now reveal the ornament that I made for my swap partner in our Ornament Exchange in the private FB group…. it has safely arrived at her house and I won’t be spoiling the surprise when I share it here:
By the way, did you know that anyone who signs up to receive my blog post via email can request to join that group? It’s a super nice group of people and we have a lot of fun doing things like Book Club Sundays ( where we share a favorite quilt book or magazine), swaps, and special challenges.
Well, that’s a longer blog post than I was intending to write…once I get going it’s hard to shut me up I guess…hahaha.
Oh, and if you are curious about my method of QAYG, I have 3(!) tutorials right here on my blog: https://farmhousequilts.blog/2017/10/06/using-this-technique-will-change-the-way-you-quilt/ or https://farmhousequilts.blog/tutorials/quilt-as-you-go-with-video-assistance/
and another one here:https://farmhousequilts.blog/farmhouse-quilts-quilt-as-you-go-sew-along/
Until next time~happy creating!
