A new addition to our family!

Hello friends,

A very quick blog post today! I have gotten zero creative things done this past week because we added a new addition to our family!

Meet Dusty, a purebred miniature Schnauzer, who was taken in by a rescue shelter because of a cloudy eye ( a condition we were told would not allow the breeder to get a good price for him).

I have wanted to adopt a second dog for a while now and I always said I didn’t want a puppy, or a small dog, or a purebred….so here we have a 10 week old, purebred, miniature….go figure ;). But he is going to be well loved, and spoiled, and have so much fun with his big “sister”, who is also a bundle of energy!

And who could resist that sweet little face? Obviously not me!

Anyway…because I haven’t been creative at all this past week ( having a puppy is a little like having a baby~ they sleep a lot but you need to keep an eye on them at all times!), I thought I’d share a few projects I worked on before we got him!

I made my very first Trip Around The World quilt! I had been wanting to make one for a while and, with the help of Judy-from-my-quilt- guild’s pattern, I finally did! It was so much fun and very addictive and I already have my next sets of Fat Quarters pulled so I can make another one!

The colors look a little muddied in my photos, but they are pretty and cheery, and I especially like my fussy-cut butterfly in the center block!

Another item to strike off my bucket list was this paper-pieced sewing machine.  I have to tell you that I had tried paper-piecing many years ago and was not a big fan. I saw this pattern and thought it was super cute so gave it another try. Still not a big fan, but now I know for sure that I will not be making a paper pieced quilt any time soon  😉 .

Lastly, I mentioned my collage quilt patterns last week and have been busy fusing pretty prints to Steam A Seam and fussy-cutting out those shapes….this has been the most fun activity, let me tell you! 20200125_130452

Although I did discover that I need to buy quite a few more FQ’s with motifs, rather than dots and checks, which are obviously my favorites judging by my stash! Oh darn, now I’ll have to go fabric shopping!!!

And finally, I promised you all a give-away last week and am here to announce the winner. Thank you to all of you for your comments on what projects you would like to work on this year. I tried to respond to everyone’s comment but if I missed you I apologize…the excuse is lying in my lap right now!

This is the bundle that I am giving away this time: And the winner is……..

*********** ! Congratulations! Please email me with your full name and mailing address and I will get your gift out to you ASAP. ( email can be found in contact me menu at the top of the page)

Until next time~happy creating!

  1. What a cute addition to your family! Love your tin of cut outs. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I finished my exchange gift this week and it will be mailed today. I made something new and it was a lot of fun. Today I’m going to work on organizing for awhile as that is one of my goals for this year. I’ve ordered the Go Big 5×5 die as I’m going to make the heart quilt you posted the other day and the pattern calls for 278 5×5 squares! My hands hurt just thinking about it and happy now I got the electric cutter. Have a great weekend Monique and quilting friends!

  2. Dusty is so adorable. I know exactly what you mean about puppies as we got a miniature poodle last week. He’s a handful and into everything. I’m looking forward to seeing your collage quilt as I’ve been wanting to try one. Have fun with your new puppy!

Congratulations on your “Around the World” quilt, looks wonderful,
I’m not a fan of paper pacing either,

  4. Congratulations on your boy! My childhood companion was a miniature Schnauzer, and she was a wonderful dog. There was nothing “small dog” about her, except for her somewhat compact size. You are in for a treat. We are experiencing somewhat the same thing, having adopted a rescue that we thought would be a big boy, like most of our others, and finding ourselves after a year with a 25# dog. He just did not grow! But his attitude is very “doggy” and he is stocky rather than delicate so I’m not complaining, except about the totally predictable puppy behaviors he still won’t shake. 🙂

  5. Monique, you know dogs don’t grow up…they just grow spoiled. Dusty is cute as a button, but his big sister is adorable too. Many happy years with your fur kids. The quilt around the world is pretty; you do good work (lol). Happy stitching!

  6. Your new baby is adorable, I often think about a second one myself. I have never done foundation paper piecing, I like the effect but just know that it would drive me insane. x
