Today I am going to share how to make this cute little skate!
First of all you will want to print off the pattern: skatepattern
You might want to cut out the pattern and glue it on a piece of cardboard, OR you can use freezer paper and trace the shape, then iron the freezer paper to your doubled up ( right sides together) fabric, trace, pin, and cut out.
Now you are going to sew on the solid line starting on one side of the top and ending at the other side of the top. DO NOT SEW all the way around! You want the top left open!
Clip the curves ( but don’t snip your sewing!) and turn your skate right side out.Press and turn the top edge to the inside and press again, like this:
Now clip a piece or rusty wire and shape it into a “blade” shape ( I made mine a long, flat oval) and push one end through the seam allowance at the bottom of the skate. like this:
I made a little curly-cue on the wire on the inside so it can’t slip out. Repeat on the other side. Now top stitch the top of the skate closed with your machine. Now it’s time to sew on the “buttons”. I used little tiny jingle bells, but you can use whatever you have on hand.
Almost done! You will want to cut another piece of rusty wire and make some curly- cues on both ends to make a cute little hanger. Just sew these to the top of the skate and you are done!
Believe me when I say you will want to make a whole bunch of these! Very addictive 🙂
I think these would super cute hanging on a little themed tree, or in a garland, or attached as a gift tag!
